Connection

1) Have you ever read Judges 11:29–40? If not, read it and ponder the passage for a moment. Did Jephthah really sacrifice his daughter? Many (most?) have answered yes. Miles van Pelt offers six reasons to reconsider that interpretation.

2) Battling over the nature of the Bible is not something that has gone away. There are those who want to undermine the historic Christian position on what the Bible is. Michael Kruger reviews The Bible Tells Me So by Peter Enns and illustrates the point.

3) I am currently thinking and writing about whether forgiveness is conditional or unconditional. We know that God forgives only when the condition of repentance has been met. Are we supposed to follow that pattern? Or do we forgive regardless of repentance? I currently believe the biblical data says we offer forgiveness unconditionally while granting forgiveness only to the penitent. Chris Brauns argues for that position here. Kevin DeYoung affirms Brauns and offers insight here. Trevin Wax has helpful thoughts here. What do you think? I hope to offer what I write in the near future.

4) Andy Naselli offers ten ways the flesh and Spirit/spirit are contrasted in the Bible.

5) Jason DeRouchie has just finished overviewing Song of Songs for his class at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The audio is available here.
